Global warming is changing the world as we know it. The Sixth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC AR6) states with high confidence that the current climate in most regions of the world is already different from the climate of the early or mid-20th century and that climate change has already changed the magnitude, frequency, duration, seasonality and spatial extent of climate hazards. Worrisomely, IPCC AR6 also states, also with high confidence, that every region of the world will experience concurrent and different combinations of changes in Climatic impact-drivers (CIDs) by mid-century (depending on the warming level that will be reached), which will challenge the resilience and adaptation capacity of the region. More specifically, AR6 projections indicate worldwide changes in heat, cold, snow and ice, coastal, and oceanic CIDs will continue over the 21st century, however with different rates of change, and regardless of the climate scenario. The regional variation in these projections clearly highlight the need for regional scale treatment of climate change related hazards and impacts, as opposed to simply extracting information from coarse resolution global projections. The Regional Climate Change Conference specifically aims to address this need, and with a focus on Global south countries where climate change impacts are likely to be felt very strongly.
The 2025 edition of RCCC (RCCC 2025) will provide a unique opportunity to share science, on-the-ground experiences and policy developments across different countries and communities, with a special focus on early career professionals and female participants, especially from the Global south (partial financial support may be available for participants from LIC and LMICs). RCCC 2025 aims to foster future research through the use of state-of-the-art methods in climate modelling, regional/local climate impacts and risk assessment. The conference will also host a special session on climate financing where invitees from climate financing organisations (e.g. GEF, GCF, UNDP, UNEP, WB, ADB) will describe climate financing opportunities within their organisations, especially those that are geared for the Global south.
